Solar System Walk

Scale and distance in the Solar System

-

Did you know that on our 1km Solar System walk, which stretches from the Sun to Pluto, the size of the Earth should be about the size of a peppercorn? In fact Saturn is only the size of a peanut or a marble, and Mercury is the size of a chocolate freckle!!

Luckily we have multiplied the scale of the planets and moons by 200. This allows you to view decent size model planets and moons, instead of smarties, peppercorns and peanuts.  The Solar System Walk will give you an understanding of true sizes and distances in our Solar System, and the vastness of our Universe.

During your walk along our Solar System you might be lucky enough to spot one of our resident kangaroos. They are used to people, but not tame enough to touch.

PRINT BOOK.pdf - Adobe ReaderPluto is now considered a “dwarf planet”, and is no longer considered a “real” planet. You will find a replica of Pluto at his final resting place in a satin lined coffin in the main exhibition area of the GDC.

Take a Solar System Quiz, a clipboard and a pencil from the reception area for an extra challenge.
